Worldcook's Christmas recipes

Many countries have Christmas traditions; some have to do with bread, some with main courses, others with drinks. Some (like French) are for the evening of the 24th of December, others for Christmas Day. The most famous of all is probably the British Christmas pudding, which you have to start preparing by the end of November. In Dutch Limburg we eat vol-au-vents with ragout. When I was young, we used to eat white bread and steak in the middle of night after the Midnight Mass. In Scandinavia, one eats lutefisk (stockfish) or goose. In many countries turkey is popular; but in Spain for instance in rural areas people also serve lamb. The Americans eat roast beef, since they serve their turkey for Thanksgiving on the 4th of July.
Many European countries eat a certain form of raisin bread. In Belarus, you have to break the bread with your hands for Christmas and not cut it. But whatever you eat or drink, take your time and enjoy it, because Christmas Day is the only day that the world almost comes to a virtual stand-still.
