Apart from
waffles, Luik (Liège) is famous for its Pékèt.
This is an alcoholic drink based on grain, a little like Dutch gin, made
of wheat, hops and juniper berries. its
alcohol percentage varies between 22 and 35%. Sometimes it is colored and
flavored with fruit or flowers.
Pékèt means spicy
in the language from Luik, a language which, by the way, hardly anybody
knows nowadays.
There is even a special
Pékèt bar. On
the 15th of August, Luik has a celebration in its "Quartier d'Outremeuse"
where pékèt is served; adolescent even add it to their soft drinks. |
