Meat sauce with rice

 

Baked beans

  • 200 GRAM MUSHROOMS
  • 500 GRAM MINCED BEEF
  • 1 ONION
  • 1/2 CUP APPLE JUICE
  • 1/2 CUP CREAM
  • 1/2 CUP TOMATO KETCHUP
  • 1 TABLESPOON MUSTARD
  • 1 CLOVE GARLIC
  • 1 TSP THYME
 
  • 500 GRAM DRY WHITEBEANS
  • 500 GRAM TOMATOES
  • 1 ONION
  • 1 TSP THYME
  • 100 GRAM BACON
  • 1 TEASPOON SAMBAL

Chop the onions, garlic and cut the mushrooms. Fry the minced meat for 5 minutes, loosening it with a fork. Add the thyme, onion, garlic and mushrooms and fry 5 Minutes. Add tomato ketchup, mustard and apple juice and cook 10 Minutes. At last, add the cream.

Soak the beans in ample water for 12 hours. Cook them, together with 1 teaspoon of salt, for 1 hour. In the meantime, chop the onion and fry for 5 minutes. Cut the tomatoes, add them and fry for 15 minutes. Puree the sauce in a food processor or through a sieve. Cut the bacon in cubes and fry 15 minutes. Cut the leaves from the thyme. Add bacon, thyme and sambal to the tomato sauce. Add the sauce to the beans. Goes well with plain or fried potatoes.

In Australia, people in the outback used to eat this for breakfast, where it may have been difficult to find any food in the early morning. Obviously this dish has once been imported by the British. Of course you can buy baked beans in a tin and just heat them. This recipe allows you to make them from scratch and they are delicious!
